CHAPTER 14

SWEETIE

“Itold you,” I smirked at Cobra when my phone rang, the sour-tempered hacker giving me a baleful look, “she can’t get enough of me.”

“I really don’t care,” he drawled from across the table where he was monitoring our security feeds on an armoured laptop.

I hit accept on the phone call from ChaCha and brough the phone to my ear. “Missing me already, killer?”

When she didn’t immediately reply, I froze. “CeCe?”

She gasped my name, her voice distant, and alarm went through my blood like a shock of electricity. I was out of my seat in an instant, striding for Prodigy’s office, and that was before her quiet voice reached my ears.

“Dreamer’s dead. There’s a guy here, six foot, ugly as fuck, scar on his cheek that kinda looks like a lightning—”

“CeCe?” My heart stopped. That was it. Her voice cut off, and there was nothing else. “Talk to me. Please, talk to me. Say something, killer.”

Cobra was right on my heels with his laptop, a shocking blaze of panic on his sharp features.

“If you can hear me, say something, make a noise—anything. Okay, it’s okay, I’m coming, CeCe.”

Only silence answered me. I was going to throw up.

I thrust my phone in Cobra’s direction. “Track the call. Find her.”

“Find them,” he snarled right back at me, snatching the phone from my hand. Dropping to the ground beside Prodigy’s office door, he got to work, pulling up a bunch of code shit on his laptop I didn’t even try to understand.

I drove my shoulder into Prodigy’s door, barging it open and not giving a shit about the gasping, pink-faced man writhing under my president on the sofa.

“Someone’s got ChaCha,” I growled, my blood pumping so fast my head spun. My girl. Someone had got the love my fucking life. I’d never known terror like this.

“Fucking hell, Sweetie,” Prodigy complained, separating himself from Tybalt and snatching his jeans off the floor.

“They took her, and they’ve probably got Lynn and Jessia too.”

“Dreamer was with them,” Tybalt said, shaking his head dismissively where he splayed facedown on the sofa. “They’ll be fine.”

“Dreamer’s dead,” I snapped, shaking from head to toe. “ChaCha called me, sounding terrified. She said someone killed Dreamer and grabbed her, a tall, ugly guy with a lightning scar on his cheek. We need to move now.”

“Cobra can—”

“Already tracking the call,” Cobra shouted from outside the open door. Shit, I’d knocked it half off its hinges. I itched to rip it the rest of the way off, just for an outlet for my blinding fear. Someone had taken her.

“Good.” Prodigy shot a commanding look at Tybalt as the usually-smirking asshole redressed, looking ready to kill someone. “Get Devil to plot a route when Cobra finds a location, and rally half our numbers. Be ready to ride out ASAP.”

“I’m coming with you,” I said as Tybalt stormed out of the room, my voice so low it was like thunder. I couldn’t control it, couldn’t control my emotions or my trembling body or my too-quick heartbeat.
